A few thoughts and callouts from the "People at Work 2024” report:
- Pay Remains Paramount: Salary continues to be the top priority for workers globally, with over 55% ranking it as their primary job attribute. Widespread inflation is obviously contributing, however, dissatisfaction with pay is nothing new. Consistent benchmarking is still the best tool to retain talent when it comes to comp structure to avoid attrition in key roles.
- Flexible Work Arrangements: While remote work has become more common post-pandemic, it comes with challenges. Many remote workers feel monitored, leading to increased job insecurity. So, while flexibility is still top of mind, prioritization is more focused around job security and job enjoyment indicating a slight shift. Flexibility doesn’t need to mean office hours – think flexibility in career path, project assignments, and cross-pollinating teams. Balancing flexibility with trust and an enjoyable company culture is crucial for maintaining a satisfied workforce.
- AI: Threat and Opportunity: AI is transforming the workplace, yet opinions are still divided as only 60% of the polled workforce believes they have the skills to advance their career over the next 3 years. Workers confident in their ability to adapt their skills, and who are more tech forward in nature view AI positively, while those uncertain about their skills and ability to learn new tech can feel threatened. Investing in AI education, upskilling, and clear communication about how AI can augment rather than replace is essential for easing these fears and leveraging AI's full potential.
